The PCBoard installation program allows you to choose among four custom
types of installation: Technical Support, Sales, Corporate, Hobbyist, or
the default (unconfigured) installation. This document describes each of
the available options in more detail.
After reviewing this document, you will better understand which default
installation will best fit your needs.

Tech Support:
This type is designed for technical support and product upgrade via a BBS
system. It will allow your callers to retrieve information relating to a
specific product or products from your system. There is a provision for
sales information to be distributed, but that is not the primary purpose
of this installation.
Main Board-
-Demonstration and sales information available as
download-able files.
-Messaging restricted to private messages between callers
and Sysops.
-Bulletins with sales/ordering information are available to
be read on-line or downloaded and read off-line.
Product 1-
-Demonstration and sales information shared with the Main
Board area, as well as upgrade/patch files directory, and
tech tips and information relating specifically to Product
1.
-Access is restricted to registered callers only.
-Messaging is allowed in private message between callers and
Sysops, as well as public messages between callers.
Product 2-
-Demonstration and sales information shared with the Main
Board area, as well as upgrade/patch files directory, and
tech tips and information relating specifically to Product
1.
-Access is restricted to registered callers only.
-Messaging is allowed in private message between callers and
Sysops, as well as public messages between callers.
Employee Conference-
-All file areas, including public and private upload areas
for all conferences are available.
-Access is restricted to employees only.
-Messaging is allowed publicly and privately between
employees.
Sales:
This configuration is designed to distribute sales information about a
specific product or group of products. It is a general access type
system, allowing anyone to call and retrieve information.
Main Board-
-File areas with Sales and Demonstration information are
available for download.
-Messaging is restricted to private messages between Sysops
and callers.
-Bulletins are available with sales/ordering information
that may be read on-line or downloaded and read off-line.
Corporate:
This configuration is designed for in-house use by departments and
employees of a corporation. It is a closed-access system, and will not
allow people to register and receive access to restricted areas of the
system. It is a semi-secure installation. Additional security may be
configured at your option, to prevent any unauthorized access in any area
of the board.
Access to the system is restricted to pre-registered callers only.
No public access is allowed.
Main Board-
-Private messages between callers and Sysops only.
-No file areas, scripts, bulletins are available.
Employee E-Mail-
-No file area, scripts, bulletins are available.
-Conference is available to all employees.
Messaging may be either public or private.
Sales & Marketing-
-Access is restricted to members of the Sales & Marketing
Department(s).
-Bulletins are available for display of information relating
specifically to this area.
-Files areas are available for download of information
relating specifically to this area.
MIS-
-Access is restricted to members of the MIS Department.
-Bulletins are available for display of information relating
specifically to this area.
-Files areas are available for download of information
relating specifically to this area.
Administration-
-Access is restricted to members of Administration.
-Bulletins are available for display of information relating
specifically to this area.
-Files areas are available for download of information
relating specifically to this area.
Human Resources-
-Access is restricted to members of the Human Resources
Department.
-Bulletins are available for display of information relating
specifically to this area.
-Files areas are available for download of information
relating specifically to this area.
Customer Support-
-Access is restricted to members of the Customer Support
Department.
-Bulletins are available for display of information relating
specifically to this area.
-Files areas are available for download of information
relating specifically to this area.
Engineering-
-Access is restricted to members of the Sales & Marketing
Department(s).
-Bulletins are available for display of information relating
specifically to this area.
-Files areas are available for download of information
relating specifically to this area.
Hobby:
This is designed for the home-hobbyist System Operator (Sysop). It has
separate areas for messaging, files and graphics. All areas are designed
for public access, however you may modify the configuration to be a
registration-oriented system easily.
Main Board-
-Public access, with all commands available to first time
caller.
-Restricted file areas available.
-Messages allowed between caller & Sysop and between
callers.
Files-
-Devoted to the download and exchange of various files.
-Messaging allowed, but should be monitored for topic.
-Bulletins relating to file transfers.
Messages-
-Devoted to general discussion between callers. Both public
and private messages are allowed, no particular topic.
-No file areas available.
-Scripts, doors and bulletins relating to messaging (QWK,
off-line mail reading, rules of the board, etc.) should be
installed here.
Graphics-
-Because graphics-related files are specific in nature, this
is devoted to download and exchange of various types of
graphics files. The default installation gives you various
file types, but you may also sort them according to topic
(Nature pics, Space pics, etc.) or by resolution (1024x768
GIFs, 800x600 GIFs, etc.) or any other criteria you wish
to use.
